Musica Chiesa

A progeny of the angelic lilting of violins, thunderous reverb of the cello, the graceful bellow of the viola, the playful whistle of the flute, the cadence of percussions, and the dexterous banter of the keyboard, Musica Chiesa (Church Music) defines a significant chapter in Church Music. Formed primarily to heighten the prayerful mood of parishioners in the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice in UP Diliman under the guidance of Fr. Jboy Gonzales, the group composed of seasoned and budding musicians elevates the bar of musical experience with their distinct interpretations of a wide array of repertoire. They breathe life into songs with their youthful and refreshing arrangements that distinctly reflect their colorful personalities, unnerving passion for music, and their strong desire to bring anyone who catches a note or two of their musical prayers closer to God.
Aside from serving regularly at the 11am mass at the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice, Musica Chiesa is active in building and strengthening other communities such as Ateneo’s Church of the Gesu and the Payatas Communities. They have graced a lot of events, from cultural performances, fund raisings, outreach programs and other charitable activities, to simple celebrations of life’s milestones such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and the like.
In spite of their mercurial schedules, these vernal mavericks are dedicated in making their music more available to the general public. At present, they are currently recording an album with Kythe Foundation in support for Cancer-stricken children. Soon, they will be releasing their debut album under the Jesuit Music Ministry, which is slated to be released next year.
With these in tow and inspired by the late Fr. Eddie Hontiveros’ philosophy, Musica Chiesa has proven itself a vanguard of Church music in the Philippines.
